Rewiring your brain: The neuroscience

Every new change requires you to let go of who you were, the routines, roles and relationships that defined who you were are shifting. Change may feel threating, uncomfortable or impossible during this time because your brain evolved to prioritise survival over growth. The unknown registers as danger, even what change is positive or wanted. The discomfort you feel in transition of the brain reorganising will pass once your nervous system accepts the new thought, behaviour or identity as your baseline. Stay patient in the process.

Your identity is stored in neural pathways built over years, or through repetition. When you start to choose a new chapter those pathways don’t just disappear, they keep you in autopilot. Conscious change requires effort for the brain, the first few weeks or months of change require more energy so it is common to feel drained. Expect to feel exhausted before you feel energised, expect to feel like an imposter before aligned. Your internal sense of self takes longer to update, this is normal and temporary. Each time you act in alignment with your new identity, you strengthen the neural pathway, small consistent actions will teach your brain that change is real, repetition is what rewires identity.

Under stress it is common for old habits to resurface, as stress pushes your brain towards a familiar pattern. This does not mean you have failed, recognise what is happening, redirect and continue to build new pathways.

 Morning Routine:

1.     The moment you wake up, your brain is in theta state (the most powerful state for reprogramming). Turn your focus inwards.

2.     Set an intention for the day. Ask yourself: Who do I want to be today? (Confident, Loving, Disciplined etc.) Chose one elevated state and commit to living from it.

3.     Practice heart-brain coherence. Close your eyes, place your hand on your heart, breathe slowly and feel gratitude, love or joy. This synchronises your heart and brain, shifting your frequency instantly.

4.     Visualise your future self. See yourself already living your dream life. Feel the emotions of it being real right now. Your brain doesn't know the different so it begins rewiring itself to match that future version.

5.     Hold the elevated state. Even 10-15 minutes can change your entire day. When you carry that energy into your actions, your reality starts to reorganise around your new state of being.
